12.1 Pricing & Plans Overview

A complete guide to how EdisonOS is structured, priced, and built to scale from a single tutor to enterprise test administration.

From Top to Bottom: Understanding the Three Layers

EdisonOS is built around three interconnected layers. Understanding how they fit together is the key to everything else.

Layer 1 - Console Your management hub. Sign in, manage billing, and oversee all academies from one place. Every EdisonOS account starts here.

Layer 2 - Academy Your branded testing platform. Each academy is independent, It has its own students, tutors, admins, content, credits, and programs.

Layer 3 - Students The people taking tests. They access content via a license (unlimited) or credits (pay-per-test).

Think of it like a shop - The console is where you run things behind the scenes, the academy is what’s displayed to the world, and students are the customers who walk in.

The Console - Your Control Center

The console lives at app.edisonos.com and is where you manage everything at once. From a single dashboard you can:

  • View and manage all your academies

  • Manage Billing & Subscription - Attach a credit card, purchase plans, licenses, and credits

  • Add or remove admins and tutors across academies

  • Monitor credit balances, license usage, and spending

All purchases are fully self-service. Payment is processed securely via Stripe. No manual invoicing, no back-and-forth, you buy what you need, when you need it.

The Academy - Your Branded Platform

The academy is your student-facing environment, the place where all the actual learning, testing, and progress tracking happens. Every EdisonOS account comes with at least one academy attached to its console.

Each academy operates as a fully independent environment. That means its own students, its own team, its own content, and its own billing which is completely separate from any other academy you might run. From the academy you can:

  • Deliver tests, modules, and problem sets to students

  • Manage your content library includes both EdisonOS's bundled content and your own uploads

  • Configure programs (Digital SAT, Enhanced ACT, SHSAT, PSAT) specific to that academy

  • Set up white-label branding, your own domain, and your own look and feel (Pro and above)

  • Assign and track licenses and credit usage per student

Think of the academy as the product your students actually experience. Everything in the console powers it behind the scenes but the academy is what they see, what they log into, and where their results live.

Students - The People Taking Tests

Students are the end users of your academy. They don't interact with the console at all they only ever see the academy environment you've set up for them. Every student belongs to a specific academy, and their data, scores, and history are tied to that academy permanently.

When a student is assigned a test, the system determines access in one of two ways:

  • Licensed students - have unlimited access to all tests, problem sets, and practice content within the academy for the duration of their license. No credits are consumed.

  • Unlicensed students - are covered by credits. Each test assignment draws from the academy's credit balance based on the program and assessment type.

A few things that never change regardless of access method:

  • Student data includes scores, test history, progress, and analytics is never deleted, even after a license expires

  • Students can pause and resume tests freely without consuming extra credits

  • A student in one academy has no connection to another academy, even within the same console

Students don't need to think about credits or licenses, that's entirely managed by you. They just log in and test.

Multiple Academies

Most customers run a single academy. But if you operate different brands, programs, or locations, you can create multiple academies from the same console. Each academy is fully independent with its own:

  • Academy Plan (Basic or Pro)

  • Available Test Credits

  • Student licenses

  • Programs (SAT, ACT, SHSAT, etc.)

  • Admins and tutors

  • White-label branding and domain

  • Content library

  • Student enrollments

Credits, licenses, and students do not transfer between academies. A student enrolled in Academy A has no connection to Academy B. All academies are billed and managed from one console.

Academy Plans - The Base Subscription

Every academy needs an Academy Plan. This is the base subscription that activates the admin side of your platform, team access, and a bundle of starting credits.

Key facts about Academy Plans

  • Always annual. The plan is valid for 12 months and renews automatically.

  • Credits and licenses require an active plan. If the plan lapses, they freeze β€” restored when you reactivate.

  • Bundled credits are valid for 365 days from activation.

  • Upgrades and downgrades (Basic ↔ Pro) can be done anytime, the difference is prorated.

A note on the Enterprise Plan

The Enterprise Plan exists for teams that have grown beyond what Pro can support. If you need more than 3 admins or more than 10 tutors than the maximum included in the Pro Plan, then Enterprise gives you fully custom seat counts built around your actual team size. It also unlocks API & Webhooks access, a dedicated Account Manager, and custom credit and license bundling. To explore Enterprise pricing, reach out to our sales team and we'll put together a plan that fits your scale.

The Student Side - Credits + Licenses

To run your academy, you must always have an active Academy Plan either Basic or Pro or enterprise. The Academy Plan is what keeps your academy open, your team active, and your content accessible. Without it, everything pauses.

On top of your Academy Plan, this is the hybrid model at the heart of EdisonOS. When a tutor or admin assigns a test, the system checks one thing:

Does this student have an active license in this academy?

  • Yes β†’ No credits consumed. The student takes the test freely. The license covers it.

  • No β†’ Credits are consumed from the academy balance based on program and assessment type.

License = unlimited tests for the duration. No license = pay-per-test via credits. That's the entire logic.

Credits are capped at 10 credits per student on any program by default, preventing students from misusing or spamming tests. This cap can be adjusted anytime from the Program tab β†’ Students in your console.

Student Licenses - For Your Regular Students

A license gives a single student unlimited access to all tests, problem sets, and practice content within the academy for the license duration.

Key facts about licenses

  • Available in 1-month, 3-month, or 12-month durations.

  • Non-transferable - Once assigned to a student, it cannot be moved to another. This is why shorter durations exist: match the license to the student's engagement.

  • Student data is never lost. Test history, scores, and progress persist permanently even after a license expires. Assign a new license and they pick up exactly where they left off.

  • Unused licenses roll over as long as the academy's base plan is active.

  • Licenses are program-specific. A Digital SAT license covers all SAT content β€” not ACT. If a student needs both, they need a license per program (or use credits for the secondary one).

Best for: Students studying with you regularly, weekly sessions, multi-month prep programs, or long-term tutoring where the student will take many tests.

Test Credits - For Everything Else

Credits are consumed when a student without an active license completes a test. 1 Credit = $1 USD. Credit consumption depends on the program and assessment type.

Assessment types explained

Full-Length Test - A complete exam simulation with all sections and adaptive routing (e.g., full Digital SAT across RW and Math modules). Consumes the most credits.

Module / Sectional - One section of a test i.e., just Math, or just Reading & Writing. Useful for targeted practice. Consumes fewer credits.

Problem Set - Focused practice on a specific skill like 20 algebra problems, 15 grammar questions. These are your homework assignments. Consumes the fewest credits.

How credits work

  • Your Academy Plan includes bundled credits: 250 (Basic) or 500 (Pro).

  • Additional credits can be purchased anytime at $1 per credit through the console.

  • Credits belong to the academy - they cannot transfer between academies.

  • Credits are valid for 365 days from purchase and roll over while the plan is active.

  • If the plan lapses, credits freeze. They're restored within 12 months of reactivation. After 12 months of inactivity, frozen credits expire.

  • Students can pause and resume a test any number of times without consuming additional credits. A credit is only consumed on completion.

Best for: Diagnostic tests & lead generation Β· Large-scale one-off test administration Β· Occasional or short-term students Β· Try-before-you-commit scenarios

  • Pricing, credit consumption rates, and features may evolve as the platform matures.

  • You will receive at least 15 days' advance written notice for any material changes to pricing or credit calculations.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do I need both credits and licenses? Not necessarily. If every student has a license, you won't consume any credits, the bundled ones sit as a safety net. If you only do large-scale testing, you can operate entirely on credits. Most customers use a mix: licenses for core students, credits for diagnostics and one-off tests.

  1. What happens when a student's license expires? They lose access to new tests, but all their data like scores, test history, progress, analytics stays permanently. The moment you assign a new license, they're back with full access and all history intact.

  1. Can I transfer a license from one student to another? No. Licenses are non-transferable. Once assigned, they belong to that student for the duration. This is why we offer 1-month and 3-month options to buy the duration that matches the student's engagement.

  1. What if my credit balance runs out? Credits are checked at the time of test assignment. If your balance is insufficient, the admin or tutor is prompted to purchase more before the assignment goes through, it takes seconds in the console. No student is ever blocked mid-test.

  1. Do credits expire? Credits are valid for 365 days from purchase and roll over automatically while your Academy Plan is active. If the plan lapses, credits freeze, It gets restored when you reactivate within 12 months. After 12 months of inactivity without a plan, frozen credits expire.

  1. Can I move credits or licenses between academies? No. Each academy is a fully independent environment. Credits, licenses, students, and content belong to the academy they were created in. Each academy maintains its own balance and plan.

  1. Can I add more admins or tutors than my plan includes? Yes. Additional admin and tutor seats can be added through the console at any time, and removed when no longer needed. Your plan sets the included number; extras are available as add-ons.

  1. Can I upload my own tests? Does that cost extra? Yes, you can upload your own content at no extra cost. The same credit and license rules apply if a student has a license, your custom tests are covered too. EdisonOS takes no ownership of and no responsibility for your uploaded content.

  1. I run hundreds of diagnostic tests for lead generation. What's the most cost-effective approach? Running 200 full-length SAT diagnostics costs 1,200 credits, but your Basic plan's 250 bundled credits offset that immediately leaving only 950 credits to purchase at $874, with an 8% discount already applied.

Go just 51 credits more and you unlock 12% off, and discounts scale all the way to 18% at 10,000+ credits. The more diagnostics you run, the cheaper each lead gets.

  1. What's the difference between a full-length test, a module, and a problem set? A full-length test is a complete exam simulation with all sections and adaptive routing. A module (or sectional) is a single section just Math or just Reading & Writing. A problem set is a targeted homework assignment focused on a specific skill. Credits consumed decrease from full-length β†’ module β†’ problem set.

  1. Will pricing change? Possibly. EdisonOS is in its first year with the new platform. At least 15 days' advance written notice will be provided for any material pricing changes. Your plan rate is locked for your current billing cycle.

  1. Do I need a contract? Self-service customers are bound by the Terms of Use (edisonos.com/terms-of-use) and Privacy Policy (edisonos.com/privacy-policy) at signup β€” no separate contract needed. Enterprise customers or those who prefer a formal engagement can sign an offline contract.

  1. Why do I need a base Academy Plan? Can't I just buy credits? The Academy Plan sets up your platform your branded environment, team access, and the infrastructure to manage students. Without it, there's no platform to deliver tests on. Think of it as the fixed operating cost; credits and licenses are the variable cost on top.

  2. Is the Academy Basic Plan or Any Plan required to use Student Licenses?

Yes, the Academy Plan is required as it sets up your branded platform, team access, and student management infrastructure. Student Licenses can then be added on top in 1-month, 3-month, or 12-month durations, giving students unlimited attempts on your Academy.
